The O'Moore's of Laois
At the time of the Plantations the O'Moore's were the main Celtic family in Laois. Queen Mary wanted their land. She sent "Planters" to farm their land to raise money for the crown in England.
The O'Moore's were not happy that their land was being seized from them. They were given land by the river Shannon but they were not happy with the land as it was hilly and they couldn't farm it.
They gathered other farmers who had their lands taken from them and rebelled against the English Planters. Every night while the English slept they traveled to Laois, to their lands, and burned crops, stole cattle and damaged the farms.
Eventually the English decided they had to leave as they were not making any money because their crops were burned and their animals stolen. The O'Moore's eventually reclaimed their lands.
